About Us
Gershon, Willoughby, Getz & Smith, LLC specializes in handling and evaluating malpractice cases, specifically as they relate to cerebral palsy. Two of the principles, Zev Gershon and Randy Getz certified as physicians prior to qualifying as attorneys. This places them in the unique position of having a first-hand understanding of the complexities of labor and delivery and the entire birth process. They are uniquely qualified to analyze the mother’s medical history, prenatal and delivery records and even long after the birth, can determine what caused your child's cerebral palsy.
Starting as medical students, they eventually worked their way through rotations in obstetrics, assisting in labors and deliveries. Exposed to fetal monitor tracings, they witnessed first hand when potential birth complications were developing. They trained under and learned how experienced physicians dealt with the early stages of developmental delay and cerebral palsy. Progressing through internships and residencies in neurology, radiology and pediatrics, they learned to identify the symptoms of a baby with potential cerebral palsy difficulties which differed so radically from a healthy baby.
Following this specialized medical training, they then pursued the study and practice of law specializing in birth trauma cases.
The effect of combining medicine and law enables them to analyze the prenatal care the mother received during pregnancy, labor and birth, as well as the days and weeks of the child's life following birth. They can determine if and when the baby’s cerebral palsy resulted from an injury at birth, a mistaken or delayed diagnosis, or other medical error. They can thus anticipate how the expert witnesses for the defense will evaluate and present the medical records. In most situations they can evaluate the merits of a case within a day of receiving the medical records. This will protect you from the uncertainty of not knowing how to proceed in your desire to improve your cerebral palsy child’s quality of life.
